St. Andrew’s Cambridge

St. Andrew’s was founded in 1976 as Cambridge’s first independent A-level College. The aim was to create an academic environment where students could achieve the best possible examination results. From small beginnings when the College enrolled only 20 students in its first year, the College now enrols 150 boys and girls who are prepared for British and international university entrance.
The College is recognised as efficient by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education and is registered fully with the British Government’s Employment.

St. Andrew’s also has a separate subsidiary, Select English, offering courses of English as a Foreign Language. Select English is accredited by the British Council. The College has twenty three classrooms, two science laboratories, a computer studies room, an art room, a quiet study room and a students’ common room. The College also makes use of the many excellent facilities provided by the city of Cambridge including the Kelsey Kerridge Sports Complex, with a new swimming pool, where students can take part in a wide range of sporting activities including football, squash, indoor tennis badminton, basketball, weight training and aerobics.

Students can choose from a wide range of accommodation including Halls of Residence (single and twin rooms) and Host Families. All college owned accommodation is fully supervised and comes under strict regulations as laid down by the British Government’s Department of Health, Social Services and Fire Safety so as to ensure that students are cared for in a safe and healthy environment.

Equal care is taken over the accommodation of those students who prefer to stay with a host family in Cambridge. Parents and students have the assurance that St. Andrew’s is registered with the British Government’s Department for Education and has a statutory obligation to ensure that all families’ backgrounds are thoroughly checked. Inspections of all our facilities, including host family accommodation, have been made by Her Majesty’s Inspectors and by inspectors of The British Accreditation Council. The College’s Accommodation Officer makes regular visits to all host family accommodation to ensure that high standards of hygiene and food are maintained and that our students are being well cared for. All host family accommodation is in single rooms with appropriate study facilities.
